Angela Bassett on losing Oscar to Jamie Lee Curtis: Thought I was deserving

In a recent interview with Town & Country, Angela Bassett candidly discussed her reaction to losing the 2023 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress to Jamie Lee Curtis. Bassett, nominated for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was visibly disappointed when Curtis’s name was announced for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Reflecting on the moment, Bassett expressed her surprise at the public’s reaction to her visible disappointment. She stated, “I found it interesting… that I wouldn’t be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving.” Bassett emphasized that her feelings were a natural human response, especially given her dedication and hard work throughout her career.
